My wife, Keiko Ahner, is a painter. She has won several contests in Japan. Also, she put on an exhibition
in the Artist's Village in Santa Ana, California.
I like to walk. I walk Nagahama beach and in the
city of Nobeoka. I often take my dog, Whitey Ahner with me.
If you want to meet single people in Japan, you need
to join clubs. They have athletic clubs such as tennis, soccer, badminton, rugby and basketball. I used to be
a member of a basketball club and a tennis club. I met a lot of single women and men there. The monthly fee just
pays for injury insurance and the use of a building or field.
Many of us foreigners used to meet in a bar or "snack"
called Bronze. At first, I thought "buranzu" referred to blondes, but I soon found out that the master of the place,
Yanagita San, is into bronze. He makes figures using bronze wire. Anyway, it's a large bar with over 60
chairs. Sometimes the master puts on a show with live performances and pool tournaments.
Nobeoka is a castle town. Shiroyama used to tower
over Nobeoka. Now, Shiroyama Castle is in somewhat of a state of ruins. But, there is a museum called Naito Kinenkan,
I believe. There you can see many relics of Nobeoka past.
The bathrooms in Nobeoka are clean. If you want
a western style bathroom, you may have to check around. Also, it pays to bring along some tissue paper, because it is
sometimes hard to get.
There used to be several bath houses in Nobeoka, Poka
Poka Onsen, Garappa Onsen, and more. Now, there is only Horigawa Onsen in the mountains and a place in Kadogawa, Kadogawa
Onsen.
There are few fish to be caught off of the Nobeoka shores.
They tell me it is because there is a large net in place, put there by Hidaka San. It doesn't seem fair to us casual
fishermen.
Asahi Yukizai is also located in Nobeoka. They
make pipes, valves and the like. It's an international company. They have a branch in Ohio and Germany.
Nobeoka used to be called Atago. Many farmers used
to meet in central Nobeoka to sell their wares. They created many songs and drank a lot of sake, rice wine.
Azumaya department store used to be located in Nobeoka.
Also, Daiei used to operate in Nobeoka. Kotobukiya was located in downtown Nobeoka. There used to be three or
four movie theaters in Nobeoka. Now, there is only one movie theatre. It's kind of small with poor speakers. There
was also an ice rink and a skating rink in Nobeoka. There used to be a farris wheel on top of Azumaya department store.
Edward James Ahner is my brother. Ed went to La
Quinta high school l in Westminster, California. Chuck Delrio always went to La Quinta with Ed. We worked at the
Garden Grove Car Wash with Norman Tamura and Arlen Kutsunai.
Ed and Clarice Ahner Taught English at Midorigaoka
Elementary in Nobeoka, Miyazaki, Japan in 3/2008.
Nobetake high school is in Nobeoka. Nobeoka Gakuen
is also in Nobeoka. Nobeoka Koukou is in Nobeoka, too.

Let's eat kasutera in Hyuga City. Let's play tennis in Kadogawa where the best tennis courts in Japan are.

Pottery
is big in Nobeoka with a selective few. Keiko took me to a place in the mountains near Mukabake Mountain. It was
sort of relaxing. But, it's not my cup of tea. Although, the master there served us a free cup of tea while we
were there.

We
get a lot of typhoons in Nobeoka, Miyazaki Ken, Japan. My friend and his mini-van were blown over by the strong wind
of a hurricane in Japan. He wasn't injured much. You may know him, Momotaro or Damian Freestone.
Hara Odori is an inside joke between me and the Japanese.
During some parties, Japanese write certain things and images on their stomachs and dance around the room. It's a joke.
Nagahama Beach in Nobeoka on March 19, 2008, a rainy
day...
I was told that the rip tides at Nagahama beach are severe. A couple of Asahi Kasei Chemical employees drowned
in them a few years back.
